Tohno Shiki died once. When he was yet a child, an "accident" happened that nearly cost him his life, but he somehow managed to survive. As an after effect of this event, Shiki gained a dreadful power known as "Demon Eyes of Direct Death," in which he was now able to see lines which, when simply cut with a blade, would crumble into pieces or die. He was greatly disturbed by this sudden change. Luckily for him, a soceress by the name Aoko Aozaki presented him with a pair of glasses that hide the lines and allowed him to see a normal vision.
Eight years passed, and Shiki was called back to the Tohno mansion in which he left after the incident. There, he begins his life anew with his sister Akiha and care takers Hisui and Kohaku. At the same time, various mysterious murders have been reported around the city. Shiki becomes interested in these crimes, wondering if he was the culprit... that is until his most incredible encounter with Arcueid Brunestud, the vampire that will change his life.
